My educational background consists of degrees in Anthropology and Animal Studies from New York University, as well as a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University. My undergraduate experience provided wonderful insight into humanity, as Anthropology is the study of humans (from culture to linguistics, to biological and archeological approaches). From there, I studied psychology and counseling at the graduate level. With this, I have a deep understanding and appreciation for the holistic human. Another important aspect of my studies includes my experiences abroad. Born and based in the United States, I graduated high school early in order to live and study in Japan, attending a year of high school in Hokkaido. During my time at NYU, I spent a year in Italy and a semester in Australia. I am grateful for the perspective these experiences gave me and it provided a strong basis for cultural competency and understanding. Professionally, I have held a wide range of positions and spent years working across a variety of traditional counseling roles, gaining invaluable experiences and different perspectives. I worked in addiction treatment, school counseling at multiple grade levels, career counseling, disability counseling and support, and retreat wellness. I am specialized in disability support and neurodivergence and operate from a trauma informed lens. My non-traditional education has emphasized spiritually based practices such as astrology, dream interpretations, tarot, and oracle readings. Over the years I have honed my skills in these areas, always continuing to learn and take in new information from a variety of different sources and perspectives. All of my knowledge, education, and lived experiences have led to the creation of Polaris Spiritual Counseling.
I have found that traditional psychology and counseling, while having the potential to be extremely beneficial, fails to comprehensively account for the entire human. Modern psychology and therapies can be largely male-focused and Eurocentric, despite large efforts over the years to have research and practices become more inclusive. These practices focus on the mind and body, but can often neglect the spirit. Thus, I decided to practice a more flexible and all-encompassing spiritual counseling, while still using the traditional education I learned. I combine traditional psychology and counseling tenets and science with more intuitive, holistic healing practices to provide individualized services that meet the needs of my clients and help them achieve their goals—whether that be working through trauma, conflict resolution, more traditional talk therapy, career guidance, or explorations into spiritual practices and divination. I do not utilize AI in any aspect of my business and take pride in my human-centered approach towards work, operating with integrity and transparency. I am grateful and happy to use my experiences to facilitate healing and spread my light and the light of others.
